Nanyang Girls High School Competition
This competition is on 3 June. Those Sec 2 cadets who are not going for CSSP Camp can apply to go for this competition. You need to form a team of 4 to participate. Come and see me if you are interested FAST.
Nanyang Girls’ High School NPCC Unit Presents
OPERATION OPULENCE 2008
The Nanyang Girls’ High School NPCC Unit is organizing Operation Opulence, a fun and interactive monopoly-based competition that will pit the participants’ money-making abilities against each other.
In this game, teams take on the role of a group of aspiring businessmen who want to make it big in the industry. They will travel round a life-sized game board, earning money at each stop through activities that challenge their physical abilities or their wits, or through dabbling in the stock market.
The event is held with the following objectives:
I. To foster pleasant relationships amongst NPCC Units;
II. To encourage friendly competition amongst cadets; and
III. To promote the spirit of enterprise.
We cordially invite your Unit to participate in the abovementioned competition. The details of the event are as follows:
Date: 3rd June 2008, Tuesday
Time: 9am to 12pm
Venue: Nanyang Girls’ High School; 2 Linden Drive
Reporting Time: 8.30am
Attire: Unit T-shirt, Track Pants, School Shoes/Sports Shoes with Socks
(No slippers or sandals are allowed)
Please form teams of 4; no reserves will be needed. Participants can be of any rank and gender. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 earning teams. You are welcome to send a maximum of 10 supporters to the event. A Teacher Officer/Honorary Officer/Cadet Inspector must accompany teams and supporters.
Refreshments will be provided but participants are strongly advised to have their breakfast prior to the event. In the event of wet weather, the competition will be carried out as per normal.
Enclosed in Annex B is a reply slip for your necessary action. Kindly RSVP by 29th May 2008, Monday, by fax to 64667564 or through e-mail to operationopulence@gmail.com. A nil return would be appreciated as well.
Registration of units is on a first-come-first-served basis. Units are encouraged to register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Any enquiries can be directed to the same e-mail address or to SSGT Lim Yin Hwee at 96155478.
Thank you for your kind attention. We look forward to your support for our event.
Annex A
OPERATION OPULENCE
Rules and Regulations
EQUIPMENT
The equipment consists of a life-sized board, 2 dice at every station, 20 different Chance cards at the Chance station and play money.
PREPARATION
Be very well-versed with the rules and regulations. Will have an upper hand if you are.
Teams are each given a starting sum of money in play notes divided as follows: 1 x $5000; 3 x $1000, 3 x $500 and 5 x $100.
PASSPORT
Each team is given a passport and the location of the stations. The purpose of the passport is to track every team’s movement and to ensure all rules and regulations are adhered to. School I/Cs will hold the passport as teams travel around the board. Upon reaching a station, it will be handed over to the Station master who will record down the team’s progress in the game.
COMCEN
At “Go”, or the starting and ending point, a communication centre will be set up consisting 3 event officials. They will be in charge of updating all other stations on the stock changes and relaying any important messages. Each time a team leaves a station, station masters are to update the COMCEN (communication centre) on the amount of money the team has on hand at the moment.
There will be a main update/progress board here showing progress of all other teams so that teams may know where they currently stand in the game and that strategies can be planned in advance.
BANKER
The station masters throughout the game will be the “Bank”, thus bankers as well. ALL transactions will occur through them only.
The Bank never "goes broke". If the Bank runs out of money it may issue as much more as may be needed by means of a ‘bank draft’ (A Note with the Station Master’s signature)
GAME PLAY
To start, all teams throw two dice at the “Go” station, after which they will move to the station they land on. Any number of teams may be at a station at any one time, though only 2 will be attended to. Station masters will attend to the teams on a first-come-first-serve basis. The teams that arrive first will have priority to trade and roll the dice while any other teams will have to wait till the station master is free to attend to them.
Teams are required to complete a task at each station before moving on. They are not allowed to skip any stations. The task will come in two difficulties: easy or hard. Teams have to choose one of the two and upon completion, the team will be awarded a sum of money. The easy task will require significantly less time and effort to complete. However, the amount for completing the difficult task would be a few times more than that of the easy one.
Each time the team lands on or passes the “Go” station, they will be paid $2000 salary.
How to win
The aim of the game is to make as much money as possible. The team with the most money wins.
How the dice system works
The dice are not used in the normal way of addition. In this game, the numbers obtained on the dices are multiplied together to give you the number of spaces to move on the board. In the event that 2 same numbers are thrown, the team is to roll again and the total number of move will be the addition of the 2 throws taken.
Example on the dice play
Team B rolls the dice and it shows 3 and 3. The total move is 9 spaces. However, there is a double of 3, hence an additional roll is allowed and they roll out 2 and 6. In this case, the move will be 12 spaces. Therefore the total number of spaces moved will be 21 spaces.
Chance
When a team lands on this space, they will take a card from pile, follow the instructions and return the card into the boxes.
Income Tax
When a team lands on "Income Tax" they have only one option: Pay Tax of $4000. The adding up of properties and assets will take too long to calculate and will only be done at the end of the game.
Teamwork coordinators
During the game, teamwork coordinators may randomly approach teams and set them a challenge. Teams that take up the challenge and complete it successfully would be awarded a sum of money.
Stock market
In this stock market, there are 5 listed companies in which teams can invest. The 5 shares that are listed are as follows:
1. Peggy Corporation (PC)
2. Hup Ong Woodwork (HOW)
3. D.R. Enterprise (DRE)
4. Life Outdoors Ltd (LOL)
5. Mr. Twiney (MT)
The initial price listing of these items would be at $1 each. The fluctuation of this market, which is preset by the organizer, will be translated to all stations in 15 minutes intervals. Hence, there will be a total of 8 changes to the market during the event.
The following is an example of how this works. At the start of the game, team A decides to purchase 10 lots (1 lot = 1000 units) of pegs at $10000. 45 minutes into game time, when the market price of pegs has risen to $2 per unit, they decide to sell off all 10 lots of pegs, receiving $20000. This means that team A has earned $10000 from the transaction.
All shares bought have to be sold at the end of the game.
