Pasir Ris Crest NPCC Inter Unit Webpage Design Competition

PRCS NPCC INTER-UNIT WEB PAGE DESIGN COMPETITION 2007 “Safe Homes”

There is a growing usage of information technology to share and extend information within community.Pasir Ris Crest Secondary School Unit of Area 8 is organizing an Inter-Unit Web Page Design Competition. We would like to extend our invitation to all NPCC units to participate in the above competition.

Theme of the competition: Crime Prevention/ Counter-Terrorism

The competition aims:to encourage creativity among cadets to acquire new skillsto promote the use of IT within NPCC community andto enable cadets to utilise new technology to share their learning ( i.e. to promote and inculcate crime prevention/ counter-terrorism awareness to their friends and loved one)

Attractive prizes will be given to the winning webpages:

Best Webpage: $100 Challengers voucher
Most Appealing Webpage: $40 Challengers voucher
Most Informative Webpage: $40 Challengers voucher

This competition is opened to NPCC cadets of any level. Interested units are required to send in their official entry form before 30 Oct 2007 via email to (ng_cheng_keong@moe.edu.sg) for registration. The closing date for the final submission of the completed webpage is on 9 Nov 2007.

Guidelines Rules & Regulations

1. Each unit is allowed to send only 1 entry.
2. No more than 3 cadets are allowed to work on one entry.
3. All proposals/design to be submitted via email through the OC Unit.
4. The link to the webpage should be included in the final submission. The link should be accessible by judges via internet.
5. All final submission of the entries MUST reach us by 9 Nov 2007.
6. An acknowledgement will be sent via email upon receiving of entry.
7. Winners will be notified by e-mail.
8. The decision of the judges is final. No further correspondence will be entertained.
9. Submission of entry signifies acceptance of the rules and conditions stated above.
10. The assessment criteria is as shown in Annex B
11. Each unit has to choose either Crime Prevention or Counter-Terrorism as themes for the webpage.
12. The web page design should include but not limited to the following itemsThe web page should have at least two layers of pages

Navigation and Tools BarsModes/Means for users to assess their learningLink to other relevant sites

CRITERIA WEIGHTAGE
1. Content and relevance to the Theme 25%
2. Originality 15%
3. Visual Appeal of the Web page 10%
4. Interface/ Ease of Use 10%
5. Features and Effectiveness of Webpage 10%
6. Popularity of the Webpage 30%
TOTAL 100%

Criteria 1: Entry to be assessed based on the extent, richness and depth of the content presented in the web page. The content should be in line with the theme chosen.
Criteria 2: Contents and design of the webpage should be original. Entries will be disqualified if more than 50% of the content or design is found to be plagiarised from other websites.
Criteria 3: Overall appeal of the webpage. How original is the overall design of web page? The use of colours and layout to create pleasant visual effects that will attracts user to the webpage.
Criteria 4: To assess whether the web page is user friendly. Users should be able to explore the different features of the web page easily without guidance.
Criteria 5: To encourage Unit to be more creative to utilise different means to present the theme and content to users for better and more engaged learning. Examples: Special Features like online Games, Quiz, music, animation, etc).
Criteria 6: A group of 30 cadets from PRCS will be testing out the usability of the webpages. They will also vote for the webpage that appeals to them most. Webpage with the most votes will be awarded with the Most Appealing Webpage Award.

Note: The hosting unit - PRCS will not be participating in the competition. The cadets selected for the testing is deemed to be objective and fair.
